01  —  The environment

Trained by people who accepted nothing less

My career in ultra luxury hospitality didn't begin with a strategy deck. It began with proximity to people who had given their lives to this industry -- veterans who had held every position, from the back of house to the boardroom, at the brands that defined what luxury meant before the word became overused.

You don't come away from that environment unchanged. You learn to see the difference between service that performs and service that lands. Between a guest who leaves satisfied and a guest who leaves transformed.

I am fluent in Dutch, French, and English -- and in the cultural sensibilities each carries. In ultra luxury hospitality, that kind of fluency isn't a credential. It's a way of seeing people.

Twenty years later, that environment is still the standard I hold everything against. It's what Excellence Only is built on.

02  —  The inflection point

When AI arrived, I saw both sides clearly

When artificial intelligence entered the hospitality conversation, the industry divided itself almost immediately. Those who feared it would replace the human touch that luxury runs on. And those who embraced it without fully understanding what they were trading away.

I studied Applied Generative AI at MIT not to become a technologist, but to understand exactly where the line is. Where AI genuinely amplifies the guest experience. And where handing it over quietly erodes the thing guests are actually paying for.

At the same time, I was deepening my understanding of human psychology -- specifically Rosenberg's concept of mattering through a Positive Psychology framework at UPenn. The idea that people don't just want to be served. They want to feel that their presence registers. That they are seen, heard, and remembered.

Technology earns the attention. Humanity earns the return. That's not a tagline. It's what twenty years of watching guests decide whether to come back has taught me.

03  —  What I'm building now

The philosophy, made real

After two decades operating at the highest level of this industry -- most recently as Director of Marketing for two Leading Hotels of the World properties in Grenada -- I made a deliberate choice. To stop executing someone else's vision of excellence and start building my own.

Excellence Only is where that thinking lives publicly. A curriculum in human psychology and AI fluency for the hospitality professionals who refuse to choose between the two.

House of Here is where the philosophy becomes a place. An eco-retreat in Pennsylvania -- three intimate cabins, no agenda, no noise -- designed from the ground up around the principles I've spent a career studying.
